Putting Herself to Sleep!

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

Kate has had two major milestones this week. First, she rolled over on her own, from tummy to back, into a toy and bopping her head quite hard. Poor thing. The milestone I'm most excited about, though, is that she put herself to sleep tonight.

Now granted, she was exhausted. The phone rang after she had been asleep only an hour, and it work her up for two hours. She couldn't get back to sleep and wanted to play. We played and played and I got tired. It was 10 pm and she still hadn't fallen asleep again. My plan was to take my contacts out and then snuggle her to sleep, a proven effective treatment for her.

More articles on Hep B Vaccines

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

I found a couple of articles about the Hep B vaccine that certainly reinforce my opinion that the Hep B vaccine is not appropriate for infants and should not be required to attend school.

The first site, the National Vaccine Information Center, has a great article on the Hep B vaccine, as well as for most of the other shots babies get.

Baby Jogger Q Series Single 16″ Jogging Stroller

Friday, January 20th, 2006

I received this Baby Jogger as a Christmas gift from my husband, and I think it is wonderful! I have really enjoyed using it and hope to use it frequently in the park. I heard about this brand of stroller through a friend who runs frequently, so I thought we'd give this one a go.

Things I love about the Baby Jogger Q Series:

  • The folding system is definitely easy. All you do is lift the handle in the seat, and it snaps in half...voila!

Big Eater!

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

Feeding HerselfWow, talk about rapid changes! Two weeks ago Kate would hardly let me feed her a thing. Now she has become an excellent eater! I am so excited, my patience paid off. Today she ate a whole container of yo-baby for breakfast, and for dinner ate a whole jar of carrots, then a whole jar of bananas. Then she had milk (mine, of course) to wash it all down! I couldn't believe it.

She's eating with gusto, too. At first I prepared a third of a jar of carrots in a bowl for dinner. She was so into them that she started fussing in a desperate high pitched voice for more when that was gone. After the jar of carrots, you would have thought she was starving to death with all the fussing while I prepared the jar of bananas.

Babyholding Time

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

Everyone who enters our house is almost immediately accused of "baby hogging" for trying to run off and cuddle our daughter Kate without properly sharing her cute cuddliness. The situation has gotten quite desperate, and we've been counting the days for her next little playmate to be born.

We're relieved to announce that our friends Rick and Stacey just had a lovely daughter, Leyna, and we're excited to squeeze in some time babyholding on their dime when we visit them in the hospital (hopefully tomorrow). Without a doubt they're going to be fabulous parents, urbane, funny, and committed. Rick just changed his first diaper (yay, meconium), Leyna was able to latch (fingers crossed). We're proud and happy.

Rick and I had a brief discussion about Kate's aversion to light for the first week of her life or so, barely peeking through slits until late in the night when she would emerge to look around.

Apparently Leyna doesn't have that problem. She's been scanning her lasers at anything that comes within her 8" range.
