Picante

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Kate is developing a more nuanced use of words. She can say "hot" and "cold" to mean either food temperature or ambient temperature. When we open the back door she'll say "cold", and if the oven is on, she'll try to touch it and say "hahhhh-t. If she is presented with hot food, she'll bend over her plate, say "hot" and blow on it.

Today she was eating Mexican food and shoveling in hot salsa and chips, due to her dipping aptitude and a desire for anything with flavor. Once she got a little ahead of herself, she gave me a surprised look and asked for "ice." The Mexican waiters were impressed that this very white child could down their spicy salsa without hesitation.

Journey to Ernie (and the Duck)

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Kate has developed a healthy attachment for all things Sesame Street. From Elmo (the natural), to Cookie Monster ("Uncle" Jeffrey brought her one she now sleeps with), to the Bathman himself, Ernie, she can't quite get enough.

She will dance along whenever our Ernie hand puppet sings his montage of Rubber Ducky mixed with other tunes. If he's ever alone without a rubber duck, she'll call "ducky" to have someone go find a duck for him, and when she wants to do the puppeteering herself, she'll say "Errrrr-nie" and put her hand around her wrist to indicate that he's a puppet.

More on Yesterday’s Ultrasound

One thing I forgot to add in my previous post is that the technician said, "This might be a boy." She added that both sexes had protrusions at this stage, so she couldn't tell for sure and didn't want to confirm a sex, but she did initially have the "boy" reaction. I guess we'll find out more in three weeks when I have my anatomy scan.

Yesterday we went for the nuchal translucency test, which they do with an ultrasound, and boysenberry has changed a lot! What used to look like a turtle now resembles a baby! (more...)
