Thumb Sucking!

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Aren't these 3D ultrasounds great? This is the face shot, but she kept sucking her thumb and putting her hands on her head, so we never got a clear "face" picture. I find it interesting that she already looks a little different than Kate. Not that I expected them to look like twins, I guess I don't really know what to expect. Boysenberry seems to have sharper features than Kate, or maybe she just hasn't filled in with baby fat yet. I guess we'll find out soon enough!

The doctor said my due date hasn't changed, so we're back to saying it is the 29th of August. He said they don't "officially" change the due date even if the baby looks bigger than it should. He said they would deliver at 39 weeks (August 22nd), unless I wanted to do an amnio to check for lung maturity, and then I could deliver her at 37 or 38 weeks. When I commented to Joel that I would wait and see how I feel at 37 weeks, he called me a Brazilian (for convenience c-sections). Part of me, though, thinks why should I suffer an extra couple of weeks if I don't have to? I thought I was miserable at 36 weeks. I guess we'll see. Maybe Boysenberry will trigger labor early herself and I won't have to worry about it. I asked the doctor if my early labor before was due to me or the placenta previa, and he said it was the previa. I shouldn't expect it to happen again.

She’s Got Legs…She Knows How to Use Them!

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

We had our two big ultrasounds yesterday, and everything looked normal! The first was a fetal echocardiogram. Boysenberry was not very cooperative. She ran out of patience with the process and started kicking and flipping, making the technician's job harder! She called Boysenberry stubborn. Hmmm, do we have another little McIntyre?

Boysenberry in Profile!

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

Yesterday we had another doctor's appointment and ultrasound, all part of the regular checkup. Everything looked fine. The baby is developing well. The only surprise is I haven't gained one pound since March 5th, which I was not at all expecting. I guess the baby is taking my reserves and chasing after a toddler is burning a lot of calories. You wouldn't know it to look at me, my tummy is growing fast!

Kate was very excited about the doctor's appointment. She called him doctor when he walked in the room, and when the baby came up on the screen she said "baby." Who would have thought she'd recognize an ultrasound as the baby?

I've been feeling a little dizzy and light headed, so I asked the doctor about it. He thinks I'm not eating often enough, apparently I'm supposed to have three meals and three snacks. I'm never hungry enough for that, though. I guess I'll give it a go anyway!

Discipline Challenge Begins!

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

We've started using time out for discipline, and it is working really well! I am amazed at just how stubborn my almost 20 month old can be, though! So far she has earned time out for kicking me in the stomach and for pulling computer wires. I put her in a chair or in her room and make her stay there for about 5 minutes. Then I make her say she is sorry. For a child who can say anything you ask her to, sorry is not high on her list. She only says sorry when threatened with another time out! I think she totally understands what it means and just doesn't want to say it.

The beauty about it is that she will now respond with just the threat of a time out. Yesterday she kicked me in the stomach again, and I told her if she didn't stop she was going to go into time out. She stopped immediately! I couldn't believe it, the kicking me in the belly problem has been a major problem for us. The more agitated or angry you get, the more she thinks it is a game and keeps doing it! Now that I'm using time out, I don't get nearly as frustrated with her, and she responds immediately! It is definitely working for us so far!
