Phil&Teds Sport Buggy vs. Jane Powertwin

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

We're coming up on our due date, and have been shopping for double strollers for months now. We had narrowed it down to two strollers, the Phil&Teds Sport Buggy and the Jane Powertwin. Both strollers fit our requirements in several areas.

Divide and Conquer

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Kate is a Daddy's girl. While she has always treated Jenn and I differently during diaper changing, fit-throwing, etc. the favoritism has always been somewhat mild. Potty training, apparently, is another thing.

Kate is still making great progress on the potty - ever since she got her own little pot like Simon and Jakey's, she's happily toddled to the bathroom, de-pantsed and gone by herself, needing assistance only for re-clothing (not a toddler priority) and occasionally with hand washing (although she's pretty good at that in her bathroom).

When Jenn's around, that's the only potty she'll use. Insisting to go to the second floor to use her Potty. For Daddy, however, she's actually requested several times to use one of the adult potties with her seat on top - the very thing she was rebelling against two weeks ago. Guess she wanted to be independent in more way than one.

Kate is now furiously saying "thank you" to things, and to a lesser extent "please." We had the nieces here this weekend and we tried to encourage them to honor her "pleases" (as in, "please stop dangling that toy over my head and let me have it") and for the most part everyone got the message and courtesy is the new whining in our household.

So with potty being the new diaper and courtesy on the rise, we're hoping to get eating to be the new photosynthesis and we'll be in great shape!

Miss Independence

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Now about Miss Independence. She has fully entered toddlerhood, at 23 months. Her phrase of the day is "Kate do it." This phrase applies to every aspect of her life, from wanting to take over whatever I'm doing, such as cutting up her fruit or cooking on the stove, to even taking off her diaper. She is not, however, wearing many diapers these days, because we seem to have turned a corner on potty training. After a very hard and trying week of power struggles, Kate has decided she doesn't want to wear diapers and wants to go on the potty almost exclusively. Last week, she took her diaper off constantly, and would sneak off and potty on the floor rather than in her diaper. (more...)

I’m Having a Big Baby!

Friday, July 13th, 2007

The latest news on Boysenberry is that she is a big baby. Surprise, surprise, since Kate was a 7 lb 5 oz preemie, but now that I'm faced with carrying a big baby to term, I can't help but think that this is too big! It was great for Kate, since we knew she would come early, but I'm a little concerned about somehow needing to push out a giant baby. (more...)
