MMR Exhaustion

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Kate had her MMR shot last week on Tuesday, and I am so worn out and tired from the experience I could collapse. She had a slight fever the next day, and that went away in a few hours. However, she started acting loony a couple of days later, crying at the slightest injustice or wrong, and being generally cranky and irritable. She has also been waking up in the middle of the night for up to two hours, and has insane insomnia. Yesterday, eight days later, she started having a fever of 102, and tonight it was 102.6. In addition, she lost her appetite and once again she is strictly a dairy girl. The other bizarre thing I noticed is the inside of her lower eyelids are bright red. Needless to say, Joel and I are exhausted! Last night she didn't fall asleep until midnight, and still woke up at the crack of dawn for an hour. Couple that with nursing a newborn all night and you have a recipe for one tired mama.

Reminds me of a Barenaked Ladies song, "Who Needs Sleep?"

Who needs sleep?
(well youre never gonna get it)
Who needs sleep?
(tell me whats that for)
Who needs sleep?
(be happy with what youre getting
Theres a guy whos been awake
Since the second world war)

Bloomies Disappoints

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Last week I decided to shop at Bloomingdales on the Upper East Side. It was one of my first shopping trips with two. All was well for the first hour. The girls fell asleep on the subway, and continued to sleep for another hour. Suddenly, all hell broke loose. Isabel decided she needed nursing NOW. She woke her sister up screaming, who immediately screamed "potty potty!" It was a dilemma. If I nursed Isabel, Kate would have an accident, but if I took Kate to the potty, Isabel would continue to scream until it was her turn.

Now I don't often shop at Bloomingdales, but a friend gave me a great coupon that I thought would make it worth my while. I was pleasantly surprised at how accommodating the sales people were to my need to feed the baby. They allowed me to nurse her in the dressing rooms without hesitation, and no stern warning not to leave dirty diapers in there like I got at Macys when I went through this with Kate. (as if...gross!) What I was not prepared for was the rudeness of the customers. (more...)

Where Have We Been?

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Boy, it is hard to find time to blog with two kids. I feel like I'm coming out of the cave now, though. Here's an update on what's happening in our neck of the woods.

Isabel had her first vaccinations Tuesday. She was a little cranky afterwards, and ran a really low temperature, but with ample Tylenol as prescribed by the doctor, she did really well. She was 22.5" and weighed 11 lbs. She is healthy and growing well, at the 50th percentile for both height and weight. She was traumatized by the shots. I thought Kate was sensitive, but Isabel takes it to a new level. She cried inconsolably for half an hour, and refused to nurse for three hours. She seems to have forgiven me, though. (more...)
