Disney with a Toddler and Infant!

Last week we went to Disney World in Orlando, and had a great time. I have to say, though, that traveling with two children two and under is harder than I thought. Disney does their best to make it easier, though.
Overall, our stay was nice. We stayed part of the week at Universal Studios, and part of the week at Disney. I enjoyed the Disney attractions a lot more than Universal, but the hotel at Universal was far superior. I guess that's because the Universal part of the trip was paid for by Joel's work (he attended a conference there), while our part was paid for by us, and feeling poor at this time of the year, we opted to spend a little less and stay at Disney's value resort, the Pop Century. NEVER AGAIN. It was like staying at a Motel 6. More on that later.
One of the reasons I enjoyed the Disney attractions more is that they were more kid oriented, even the adult rides. It was almost never a problem to take the baby with us in her bjorn, because Disney's rides are accommodating to all sizes, as one can gleen from the population visiting. The boats don't have bars that come down, so you can have a baby in your lap. At Universal, this was a big problem. I could only ride the carousel with the baby at Islands of Adventure. Every other ride, including the train, had bars that came down and required a baby to be able to sit in the seat to ride. It was ridiculous, and really sucked for Kate when we went alone without Joel during his conference. We could look at the rides but not ride them. At Disney, though, everything was accessible to us, and we had a great time.
Both at Disney and Universal Studios, there are nursing rooms where you can take care of babies and nurse in private. What this says about our culture that you feel you must seclude yourself in a room in order to nurse at a kid oriented theme park is for another discussion, but it was nice to have the option. Sometimes I used it, sometimes I didn't. I felt fewer stares at Disney, at Universal I felt the crowd was a little more offended. Maybe it was just a less kid-friendly crowd.
At Universal, we visited Universal Studios, the City Walk, and Islands of Adventure. The kid attractions could use some work, they are quite small and can be completely toured in two hours at both the Studios and Islands of Adventure. One thing I found odd about Islands of Adventure was the lack of kids meals, even in the kid areas. What are they thinking? I ended up paying $7 for a hot dog meal, and of course it was so large the two year old didn't eat half of it. At Disney, every restaurant has kids meals, and you can get them with apple sauce, grapes or carrots, and juice, milk or water. Fries and sodas are a request, not the standard issue. It was so much easier to feed Kate there.
Overall, we thought Disney was the biggest bang for the buck, with much more kid friendly amenities than Universal Studios offered, at least for the preschool and infant set. We will definitely go back again. Kate asks to go back almost every single day!
